Fuck!!! Fuck!!! Fuck!!! What the fuck?! Why the fuck?!! Welcome to the modern era of language. Don’t be surprised with the profane start. I am perfectly normal and sane!
So what exactly has this word “fuck” got to do with our daily humdrum lives?? As per Wikipedia, “Fuck is an English-language word, a profanity which refers to the act of sexual intercourse and is also commonly used to denote disdain or as an intensifier.” We are not really interested in the first part of the meaning, but the second part- An Intensifier. Too intense to drop off. First attested around 1475. Mysterious and obscure etymologies. Grammatically flexible. You use it where you like it!
So why are we so obsessed with this word? Has it got any dark magic or sorcery done over it by some ancient, nefarious necromancer? We so much like it. It completes our language and speaking skills. It’s like the cherry on the cake, fulfilling that zest and piquance we so very much require in a lingual taste. Every grammar of every language can accommodate this word because of its usage. It has rubber stamped it’s credentials. No person in this world can now say that this word “Fuck” is a hideous, evil or an abusive word(except for the old, orthodox individuals who use it simply for abusing).
Who says mutation has stopped or has slowed down? We are changing rapidly. And “fuck” is changing us. It’s not a simple four letter word. It’s much more than that. The way it enters into our system is quite praiseworthy. We hear it for the first time. Our ears sense it and our brains intercept it. That’s our first stimulus to the word. Then we start receiving doses of “fuck” regularly. Still we don’t use it. Slowly it accumulates in our mind. We try not to use it for ethical reasons. But it’s dosage is increasing day by day. And one day suddenly, spontaneously and without any premonition, it comes out of our mouths. We don’t even realise that we actually uttered it. Then a little bit of guilt for some minutes and then “fuck” makes us it’s bondsman. Our blood pumps “fuck” cells and “fuck” antigens to the body. The chain reaction has started. The addiction has grabbed us. But it’s not a bad addiction to possess. Every person and every gene will say “fuck” when it gets it’s minimum dosage. Levels will differ but each and each one of us will be infected!!
But have we ever realised how entertaining and splendid word is it? English language without “fuck” sounds fucked up! The record 506 times usage of the word “fuck” in the movie “The Wolf of Wall Street” stamps it’s authority. Movies without “It” is too mainstream and monotonous. Boring? Too much goodness? Looking at the music industry, it can’t simply now thrive on “simple, mundane and too much lyrical songs”. Famous rappers like Eminem can’t make do without “fuck” . Just listen to those songs without “fuck” and you would feel like someone is mourning. But the biggest blow without the word “fuck” would be to be the Porn industry :P. Can you ever imagine a world of porn without “fuck”? It’s the heart of that industry. Imagine a blonde saying to her doctor, “Let’s have sex.” And imagine that same chick saying, “Let’s fuck!!!” I bet the answer is obvious. Without the word, you simply can’t enjoy the lust and the fetish of adultery.
It’s an international word. It is free from the bounds of language, race, caste, colour, age, gender etc. Find any word which can substitute “fuck”. Despite it’s abusive use, it has earned a lot of respect for its diversity. People use it to vent out their frustration, anger, irritation, excitement and any other emotion you would like to fit in. It’s not that the word is only used by cheap and vulgar people. Wealthy aristocrats, celebrities, singers, sports stars, also use it but when they say it, they say it with such poise and attitude that it becomes a fashion. Hear it from a cheap, unkempt drunkard and hear it from Leonardo Di Caprio, you will know the difference! Fuck can differentiate between classes of language.
So you may be thinking I am an advocate of the word “fuck”, but I am not. I am not a servile flatterer of this word nor I am an addict. Well there are some demerits of using it. It’s like a drug. It can cause an acute addiction with every usage. You can’t stop having a foul mouth then. With every passing day, you deteriorate. Every alternate word, a “fuck” occurs. You start having those dirty chats. The word starts to dominate and it alters the matrix of your speaking skill set. And then finally you start to collapse. You find it difficult to resist and also too guilty to speak. So you are stuck in a limbo. Can’t talk. Can’t think. Fuck is the way for your mouth to open. That’s when you are totally “fucked up” as we say. And unfortunately there’s no physical medicine or rehab facility for this addiction.
So what is the final verdict? Is the word required in our daily appetite or should it be eradicated? I say none. Use it at your own discretion. Well for the starters, just enjoy the thrill and fun of listening it. And for the ones stuck and in a bad state of addiction, you are rendered useless till we may find a new drug to combat this euphoria. Till then continue dropping those F- bombs.
“A world without fuck is a needed corrective, a sober call not to settle for historical pabulum and instead recall a past and recognise a present that is far more complicated and layered than any polemic would have us believe.”
PS- I apologise to those ethical groups who are opposed to this insanity.I am not biased or judgemental about the word “fuck”. I believe other abuses in other vernacular languages are also good but you got to admit that this is sexier!! 😛
” FUCK” the content but you ssly have a fucking stupendous vocabulary!
Hahahah! 👍
