THE MIDDLER

JEE Mains! Advanced ! BITS! AIIMS! Blah! Blah! Blah! How many can you remember?? A student or rather I’d say an individual born and brought up for these stupid, time consuming and brain wasting “exams” would. As you can see that I might not be an IITian or a genius who can crack these exams but I am the sufferer. The torch bearer whose flames singe it’s bearer.

People, parents and the so called “teachers” say that achievements in exam are the marks of pride and honour. They give you the old clichéd jobs, multi lakh salaries and a good social status. “I got 1 crore package from Facebook.” “Intern at Google”. Huh! !!

The main culprit behind this “huh” is our biased and unjust education system. It divides the young raw talent of students into classes. The TOPPERS- One who will always score high and get that crore package. No problem for them. They will get the cream. Second, the FOOLS or DIE- Disinterested in Education. No worries for them too. Either they are filthy rich or they don’t care about their ambitions and dreams. They too survive. And lastly, the most problematic and enduring class – The MIDDLERS. They are smart, have goals and are aspiring. But they have to pay. And that too pay with their blood and sweat. I belong to that class. They have dreams of becoming astronauts, entrepreneur, doctor, scientist and every damn profession you can think of. But do they achieve what they yearn for???

Not necessarily. They have to make their way out of this never ending and ever sucking whirlpool of “exams”. Who can study? It’s not interesting like quantum mechanics. It’s that boring mundane physics, chemistry, math and biology. We get bored. We get frustrated. We get angry!! But still we drop our heads down in those books and read like it like Bible. Being an IITian or AIIMSian is a dream for them but they have to shed that due to this system. They have got knowledge to outclass even the best but they can’t due to this system. It’s true that competition brings out the best from an individual but this is not a fair competition. It’s only for that TOPPERS. It’s only for achieving those clichéd goals. We have limitations. And these limitations are cleverly exploited by the system so in the end it’s us who are blamed for failure and loss. I didn’t study,so I failed. But did someone ask why didn’t I study? Did anyone care what I liked? NO. Parents say “Study”. Teachers say ” Work hard and you would land yourself in a good college”. Even the relatives ask ” How much did he or she score?” It’s all about study and study.

MIDDLERS struggle. They try to give their best shot but majority of them fail to reach the finish line. They fell short. And they end up doing something which they never intended to do. And then the mass production of disinterested-but-we-are-at least-something engineers ,doctors ,MBA’s etc starts. And they infest our country. MIDDLERS then start to infect others thinking and it all starts a chain reaction. And who’s to blame? The system says it’s student friendly, the teachers say we tried our best, the parents say it’s bad luck and then the student itself. Face down, drooping shoulders and heavy heart takes the blame on himself. He hasn’t lost a war but he feels like that. Education raped him of his confidence and credibility. Tried his best but he knew his fate.

And then after some years we see him or her resume normalcy. Carefree and happy. Satisfied? Nah! Feels that emptiness and hole that was left by the exam. But he continues to live on……….

I am angry. But on whom do I vent out my anger and frustration? The system is inanimate and stubborn. It’s not going to change till the TOPPERS feel the wrath of it and the packages start to fall. We the MIDDLERS will wait. Don’t give up hope yet! Change! Evolve ! Be what you want ! Be carefree! Be happy!

I got to go as I have to “study” even when it’s a vacation. Plight of a Middler. 😛 Bye!!

  1. Bare naked truth. . . A must read for those selected few who have the guts to digest reality n not just brag about it on social networking sites. This is THE reality. Atleast one of them is questioning the RAT race n thank god atleast karan is not one of the sheep who will follow the hoarde unquestingly n idiotically to the slaughterhouse!!!

  2. Epic truth !! years have passed and many students suffered and even committed suicide because of this education system but this system is like a giant monster and we are like ants. we grow, evolve and die.

  3. The problem with the system today is that it recognises and grades everyone on the basis of their flaws, i.e., how much they don’t know, as opposed to the simple fact that they should be judged on the qualities they possess, not on the qualities they don’t. Surely touched a nerve karan! I remembered Einstein’s words, “If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend the rest of its life thinking itself to be stupid.”

  4. Amazing write up Karan…proud to be your Lang teacher….once upon a time !! Very sharp….precise…language….i’m sure your voice is well chosen for the audience….hence will be heard…read by your age group….
Keep the good work on dear…Stay blessed 🙂
